From Empty to Full

“I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -Romans 15:13

As drivers there is one essential thing needed when owning a car. If you ever desire to leave your house in the car you need gas, right? The thing is, after driving many places the gas never stays full in the tank. Eventually the gas gauge starts moving closer and closer to E.

There are two types of drivers out there. Those who see the gas gauge hit the middle mark and say, ‘Oh no I’m getting low, better fill up’. And then there are those who see it reach E and say, ‘Oh I’ve got more miles to drive.’

No matter what type of driver you are, everyone who drives a car comes to that same predicament. Daily driving will slowly empty the gas tank and we all will have to find a gas station to fill up again.

Our daily lives can be like cars, except we run out of energy not gas. Each day we wake up ready to tackle the day of taking care of work, family, school, our homes and many other things. As the day goes on, we start feeling empty and our energy begins depleting.

The same can be said for our spiritual lives. We could wake up each day thanking the Lord for another day and be ready to face whatever trial comes our way. But sometimes we get discouraged, we get distracted, we face too many trials, struggles, or temptations and we lose that fullness of God in our hearts we felt just that morning. So, what can we do?

It can begin with our walk with God. Many times the Bible uses the words ‘being filled’. What does being full mean…

- To be made full

- To occupy to full capacity

- To have plenty

- To meet the needs

- To satisfy

I like those definitions. To have plenty, to satisfy. God is in the business of taking care of us and making sure we have what we need each day. Do you feel you’ve been running on empty for some time now? Be encouraged, God is able to abundantly fill your needs. He is the one who can fill you back up.

Psalm 103:5- “He FILLS me with good things and makes me young again, like the eagle.”

Psalm 107:9- “He satisfies the thirsty and FILLS up the hungry.”

Romans 5:5- “And this hope will never disappoint us. We know this because God has poured out his love to FILL our hearts through the Holy Spirit, he gave us.” -ERV

‘Because God loves us so much, He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love! When we are feeling empty and unloved, we can turn to the Spirit for both love and filling. In fact, we are promised that this is a HOPE that will not disappoint.’

Just like cars need gas to run we need to be filled with God daily to run. He fills us with the energy we need, He fills us with strength to face whatever comes our way. He fills our spiritual and daily needs. All we need to do is go to Him daily throughout the day and He will provide. Go to Him in prayer and devotions anytime anywhere and He will take you from empty to full.
