“Your word is like a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.” -Psalm 119:105
Have you ever to walk on a trail at night in the dark? It’s actually very hard to see in front of you or even what’s further up the trail. Usually you carry a flashlight to help light your way. We have a church campground we like to go to and we stay in their cabins. If for some reason I have to get up and use the restroom in the middle of the night I look for the lights off the restrooms to help guide my way. Another thing my family enjoys more than me is walking the boardwalk around the lake at midnight in the dark. I haven’t joined them on that yet, but they usually have fun but have said, of course it would be easier with light to guide them.
Lights on a pathway make our walk more enjoyable because it gives us confidence of where we are going, and we know we won’t stumble and fall. Have you seen lights on walkways going up to someone’s house? It’s always so much more welcoming when you have a guiding light.
Our walk with Jesus is the same way. When we try to do things without Him we stumble and get lost. It might even be scary not being able to see ahead of us. But the Bible gives us assurance. When we read through scripture and align ourselves with God we find the light we need to guide us through each day. A path well-lit for us, welcoming us to peace. Jesus knows the best way to go for each our lives and He has promised to be a flashlight when we allow Him in. We still may stumble or try our own way, but the path will always be there waiting for us to walk. Let scripture be your lamp today as you seek the Lord’s will and let Jesus be your guide in all your decisions.
