“God says, “Be still and know that I am God.” -Psalm 46:10a
“Lord, my God, I prayed to you, and you healed me.” -Psalm 30:2
“A happy heart is like good medicine, but a broken spirit drains your strength.”
-Proverbs 17:22
We’ve all been there, sick and miserable. A cold, the flu, a stomach ache. Nothing feels good and you just want to curl up under your blankets and melt away. Or maybe our children have been sick and you find yourself doing all you can to make them feel better.
What do we usually do in these times? Sometimes we go to the doctor and get medicine, other times we buy over-the-counter medicine. Some people, like myself, try the home remedies first and essential oils. No matter how we go about it we all eventually feel better and life goes on.
Aside from physical sickness there are other things that ail us. Loneliness, depression, fear, heartache just to name a few. These ailments can’t always be cured by medicine or home remedies. How then do we feel better? This is when we can turn to God for God has the best remedies.
Two things we know we can do is pray and read the Bible. Through the pages we can find hope, peace, and comfort. When we pray we can allow Jesus to wrap His arms around us in a hug. But God has provided other remedies too and they won’t cost a dime. A beautiful sunset or sunrise can warm the heart. A child’s laughter can bring a smile. A hug from loved one can calm a hurting heart. Nature is one of God’s best remedies. The melodious birds, the chirping insects, soothing sounds of waterfalls and oceans. A gentle breeze or the warmth of the sun. A butterfly or hummingbird fluttering by. For some they might prefer the rumbling thunderstorms or cold winter days of fresh fallen snow. Others the smell of burning leaves, bonfires, or fresh cut grass waffling through the air.
When we feel ourselves needing a remedy that can’t be bought all we need to do is step out into nature. God is everywhere and if we ask He will help heal us in a beautiful way be it as small as a butterfly or as big as a thunderstorm. Open your senses and let God in, let God heal.
