Psalm 19:1-2 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge.”
Nature is one of God’s love letters to us.
I have talked about the stars a few times and how cool it is to step out on a clear night away from the city. I have become awed by the stars. Luckily, I do live more in a rural area and have over the last ten years. I’ve had chickens about the same time and am usually the one who closes them up for the night. I love waiting till dark on most nights, except in the winter, because I can look up to the sky and see the vastness of stars around my home. I can’t fully put into words how awesome it is to look up and see them, but I enjoy looking towards the heavens on those clear still nights.
Like most of us, I learned what the big and little dipper looked like as a child and can usually spot them out instantly. But as my daughter and I studied astronomy this year I took on a new appreciation of the stars and learned of a few more constellations. Something that was exciting this year was spotting a certain constellation this past fall and then watching it move from above my house, across my yard to over my barn as the seasons have shifted. The sheer awesomeness of that alone has me praising God for His creation even in something as simple as the stars.
Something else I got to experience this year was in January and April when my family and I got to see Venus lined up with the moon. It was like a bright star right above the moon. Of course, it wasn’t until I googled it that I new it was Venus and just watched in awe. This May if the sky was clear we would have also been able to see Jupiter and Venus line up with the moon in a smiling face which last happened in 2008.
When I watch the stars and see nature in the sky take place, it’s so easy to see how the heavens can declare God’s glory. Stars are my ultimate cool thing but it’s not only the night skies but the skies during the day that can also tell of God’s power. The way the sun shines on clear days or through various clouds tell of God. One year in elementary school I had to do a report on clouds and there are so many kinds of clouds that can roll across the skies.
Now I know we don’t care for thunderstorms, but in God’s glory He created them for good too. Aside from seeing lighting that can be cool across the skies at times, God sends lightening to help feed our crops and the trees, flowers and grass with a natural fertilizer as the nitrogen and oxygen mix in the sky. Pretty cool when you think about it as more than a thunderstorm.
When I think about the different skies it’s no wonder to me that the Bible has said the heavens tell of God’s glory. All we have to do is look up and see it all around us. Next time you are told, ‘The skies the limit’. You can say, “No, it’s the message.”
God is seen in the skies and we can be assured He is in heaven taking care of us since the beginning of time. Look at the stars, watch the clouds, enjoy a good thunderstorm and see God’s love written for you. Take time to enjoy the message from God today.
