You and What Army

Galatians 3:26-27, “You were all baptized into Christ, and so you were all clothed with Christ. This means that you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

There is a Bible song we sing with our children in church and at school. The words are simple, has actions, and when the children sing it with assured confidence to its truth, it can easily strengthen your heart with God. It goes, “I may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery. I may never fly over the enemy, but I'm in the Lord's army!” They repeat, ‘I'm in the Lord's army’ a few times as the song continues.

So, what exactly does being in the Lord's army mean? A lot of it is our faith. Believing all things are possible through Jesus. If having faith is that simple, why do so many of us have doubts, why do we feel things are too bleak or impossible to overcome or get through? If we believe we're in the Lord's army, why is our faith lacking in so many ways?

We can learn a lot from the 12 spies Moses sent into the promised land found in Numbers 13. Among the 12 were Joshua and Caleb. They indeed found the promised land flowing with milk and honey, and fruit in abundance. The land was just as God had promised. The problem was that 10 of the spies couldn't see all the beauty and bounty God promised. All they saw were the obstacles, of giants, a very tall wall, and their defeat if they tried to take the land. They began seeing all the negative and looked at the big problems instead of looking at God and how big His promises were.

Heading back to camp Joshua and Caleb were the only ones to see the positive. They were the first two to report back to the Israelites, saying they could be overcomers because they believed in God's promise of the promised land being theirs. Unfortunately, the rest of the spies shared their report too but with quite a negative discouraging spirit. Their negative attitudes swayed many to believe they were too weak to defeat and overcome the obstacles.

Unfortunately, there are many Christians like this today. They have let the devil discourage them with negative thoughts, thinking the giants are too big, the walls are too tall and there is no way they can win. Then they take their negativity and try to spread it to others. Out of the 12 spies it was the majority who said we can't overcome them. There was more of those who had an attitude of unbelief than those who believed. Jesus says broad is the gate that leads to destruction because it is full of those who don't believe. Narrow is the gate to life because only few believe.

Jesus says, “You can do all things through Him, you are able.”

The devil says, “You are not able, look how big Goliath is. Look at the obstacles.”

When we are distracted by the earthly obstacles, we will forget that God is in the business of doing the incredible.

The devil says see the big ocean in front of you, you'll never cross it. We forget God can part the ocean.

The devil says, see the mountains, you'll never get over the obstacles. We forget God has said He can move mountains.

God says do not go by sight, go by faith. No matter what the battle is, you and God are the majority.

Elijah proved that at Mount Carmel.

Elijah proved that when he blinded a whole army.

Daniel in the lion’s den, Esther before the king, David and Goliath, Jesus in the desert.

Never believe you can't, instead know that you can, because you believe.

All things are possible to those who believe, but it is according to your faith.

Doubt sees the obstacle, faith sees the way

Doubt sees the darkest night, faith sees the day

Doubt dreads to take a step, faith soars on high

Doubt questions who believes, faith answers I.

“Maybe you've been struggling with mountains in your life, God can move mountains. Maybe there are some giants that have been intimidating you. All things are possible to those who believe. You might see an ocean in front of you as an obstacle, God can part oceans. He'll either part it, walk you over it, or give you scuba gear to get to the other side.” Doug Batchelor

Don't wonder how, simply know that God will. You and what army means you and the Lord’s army!

I have talked a lot about how the Bible can help us in so many ways and how we can grow closer to Jesus when we do. That is why I have been sharing so many books of the Bible as a small Bible study for some time now. Hopefully you have been able to find time to join me as we have read through several books in the New Testament and that God has helped you in many ways. As we dive into the new year I pray you and myself find the extra time to spend with Jesus and allow Him to guide, lead, and help us in all we do. Today we are going to continue with Hebrews 10:1-10
